Spring Creek Trail Colorado

Spring Creek 4x4 off road Trail May 29, 2004.

Spring Creek Trail Colorado

Spring Creek trail on May 29, 2004. Spring Creek Jeep trail is an 8 rated off road trail if you do all the obstacles and a 6 or 7 if you use the bypasses. To get to the trail take I-70 to the Downieville exit (234) which is just past Idaho Springs. Take the frontage road on the North side of the highway which passes under the highway turn left on Alvarado Road. Cross the bridge and take a left the trail is straight ahead.

When you get to the fork in the road go left to the wall obstacle right to bypass it. Follow the trail till you find the metal sign that says Spring Creek and follow the trail up the hill.

The line up at the beginning of the trail.

Of course we all went to the left. Here is Mark and Sherri going up the left side of the wall the harder line.

Here is Jeff and Kim going up the right side.

Dan going up the left side of the wall.

Roy of course after going up the left side has to get tippy.

Dave heads up the right side.

But without lockers and being new to off roading, he needs a tug from Roy to get up to the top.

Troy and Christy just cruise up the left side.

Dave coming over an obstacle with I-70 in the background.

Jeff and Kim at the same place what a view.

Dan just tooling down the trail.

Troy and Christy coming up a rutted part of the trail.

Mark going up the obstacle just a little ways before you get to the rock garden.

Dan and Roy following.

Dave on the obstacle getting a little more confident.

Jeff and Kim walking right up it.

Troy and Christy coming up as the tail gunners.

Mark and Sherri making easy work of the rock garden.

Jeff and Kim almost make it over.

A little tug and they are there.

Troy and Christy decides to take a harder line.

Mark crawling over another obstacle.

Jeff and Kim get over the obstacle.

Troy and Christy are right behind. Somehow Dave snuck up the bypass.

Coming up the switchbacks at the end of the trail.

Why stop here.

Marks and Sherri's tie rod mysteriously decides to bend with no rock in sight. So with no way to steer we ended up stopping for a trail repair.

Roy had the great idea of turning the tie rod so the bend was straight down and using the jack to straighten it. It worked like a charm and there was no problem driving the jeep home.

It was a fun trip with only minor mishaps a nut needed to be replaced on Dave's leaf spring and a bent tie rod needed to be straightened on Mark and Sherri's Jeep.

Liked the pictures and it sounds like someone has a knack for problem solving (with the bent tie-rod), excellent solution for a back woods repair.

Not sure who is your web master, but he has a talent for nice layouts and the site is very easy to navigate.

Have a 99 TJ, and live in the flat Houston area. Plan to make some of these trips when I retire. You have done a very good job with the pic's and comments. It really helps someone who has never done this and would like to try.

Thanks again
