Blanca Peak Colorado
To get to Blanca Peak we headed south on I-25 to the Walsenburg exit (160) – then west past the town of Blanca to Route 150 – we went north exactly 3.3 miles to the trail head. It is not marked so you really need to watch your odometer.

We found a great place to camp at the base of the trail (a few miles up from the trailhead before it started getting steep)

As we started out Saturday morning we quickly gained altitude and came upon the first major obstacle – Jaws 1. Here is Dan leading the way.

Rich is the last one to conquer Jaws 1

The obstacles weren’t enough for Rich – he caused quite a bit of an adrenalin rush for all of us when he slipped on some loose rock and almost rolled down the mountain. Luckily there was another group of 4 wheelers behind us who helped winch, tug and pull him out!

With Dan past Jaws 2 here comes Jeff following the same line – all the jeeps caught quite a bit of air on this one!

Here is Roy taking the same lines up Jaws 2

Here is Dan trying to get around the rock on Jaws 3 that we all ended up hitting a few times (all except for Roy with his narrower tires who cruised up past it!)

After many attempts, Dan got up Jaws 3 with a little help.

And here is Jeff on Jaws 3 – that rock still in the way! A little help & he's up also.

And Rich…..following Dan & Jeff’s line (there was no other line to take) got a little help to get up Jaws 3 too…….there is no picture of Roy conquering this – he RAN up it too quick!

Our reward at the end on the trail …. Como Lake overlooked by Blanca peak.

The fishing after the rain storm was excellent – for the girls anyway!
We camped by the lake Saturday night – there were more than enough areas to choose from! We headed back down the trail on Sunday morning.

Jeff doing the same

Roy needed a little “man power” to get over the edge here.

Rich cruised down.

Jeff made it look WAY too easy!

And Rich following the same line makes it down our last obstacle of the trail.
Airing back up after the weekend on Blanca Peak (shown in the background here). With only a few lasting memoirs on our bumpers and rock sliders (and where Rich’s rock sliders should be) we conquered this trail with minimal damage. A successful trip!
