Wheeler Lake Trail Colorado

Posted by on Friday, July 22, 2005 (PST)

Wheeler Lake 4x4 Jeep Trail July 8, 2005.

Wheeler Lake Jeep Trail

Wheeler Lake jeep trail is a 7 rated trail. We headed out to the trail Saturday morning July 8th with 11 jeeps. To get to the trail from Fairplay head north on route 9 to County 4 which is 2 miles north of Alma. Turn left on County 4. Follow the road for 1.9 miles turn left then later bear right and follow fs 408 around Montgomery reservoir to the trail.

Airing down at the reservoir parking lot.

The water fall at the beginning was running heavy.

Mark at the beginning of the trail.

Chris and everyone else took the hard line on the first obstacle.

Dan completes the first obstacle

.

Tod puts on a little air show.

Gary walks right up. This is the last trail before his 4.5 inch RE lift.

Dean shows a little air under the front right 35.

Lorne Flexs his CJ8 through the obstacle.

Craig decides to show everyone the underside of his vehicle.

Mark proceds through the notch.

Chris makes the notch look easy.

Gary takes another line up the obstacle.

There still was plenty of run off on the trail.

And snow at the top.

Just about to the lake.

The line up at Wheeler Lake.

Mark starts to head back down the way we came.

A great view of the valley. It was a great day for a trail run, but the trail was very busy. There had to be 50 vehicles on the trail, which caused alot of waiting. Chris broke a front left axle and had to pull the axle and drive down in 2 wheel drive and Greg still seems to be having damage show up caused by the Rubicon Trail. He completely broke off a lower control arm bracket while just driving down the trail. Fortunately both where able to do a trail fix that allowed them to drive their vehicles home.
