I added an RSS 2.0 feed to the site. The RSS feed is an xml file (text file) that has an exact pattern and can provide other sites an automated way to link to the trip reports on this site. The file is available on the web like any other web page. By clicking on the XML button in the trip report section you can see the URL and the XML file. The file contains a title of each trip report a brief description and a link to the report itself. Other sites can retrieve the file and uses it to display our pages. Whenever we add trip reports we the add title, description and link to the file and the next time the participating sites retrieve the file they will automatically show the new pages.
If you would like to see how this works go to www.syndic8.com type On The Rocks in the search for feed box and click go. You should then click on the feed id next to the On the rocks description to see the links.
For anyone who is running a .net website I have made a control that will display the our feed and any other rss 2.0 feed will not work with 1.0 feeds. If you want it leave a message.
